The Great Mouse Empire Moves On to…Video Games??
Sometimes, writing this, I feel like a total ninny. I just spent a post shrieking at Disney–not without good reason, of course–for their sequel mania and nigh-total lack of originality when I find out that the great Mouse Empire has a new title in mind.
Okay, it’s not totally new but it’s definitely new for them. Namely, Prince of Persia.
That’s right–the video game. Prince of Persia, one of the greatest video game franchises ever created (a franchise that’s so great, in fact, that it’s actually still going strong) is going to get the movie conversion treatment.
I know there’s concern already: game to movie translations fare almost as well as movie to game translations. Which is to say, not well at all. There have been spectacularly few good game to movie translations–what’s the current front runner on that, anything but Uwe Boll? Street Fighter?–and fewer still movie to game translations–if it weren’t for the Star Wars franchise this list would be abominably short. And would probably be limited to James Bond games.
But then again…we all have to bear in mind that Disney’s big new action series–Pirates of the Caribbean–did astonishingly well, and was astonishingly good to boot. Maybe the Mouse Empire knows what it’s doing around action titles, even if they are game translations.
So until we can get a good look at Prince of Persia, we can keep ourselves nice and contented with the Disney movie trivia on Kwanzoo.
