The runup to Wrath: server outages, missing mail, “NERF EARTH’S ROTATION!”
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King comes out out at midnight tonight, and people are getting impatient.
How impatient? Check out this post from the official Blizzard forums:
Subject: Way to Screw Over The West Coast
I love it how Blizzard says the game will be playable at 9pm PST, but if you are on the West Coast you cant buy it until 12am PST.
Way to go Blizzard…
And the official response, color-coded in blue:
We’re working to ensure the sun reaches all areas of the world at the same time of day and plan to have this corrected in a future patch.
Of course, with all the problems of the day or two, they’ll probably have their hands full. During the scheduled Tuesday maintenance, they accidently deleted everyone’s in-game mail spent the rest of the day with the servers down trying to bring it back. (They recompensated everyone with a free day of gameplay.)
Once the servers came back up, some people noticed that some of the most prized gear in the game, the Merciless Gladiator stuff, had apparently been set to a price of “free,” resulting in the affected vendor getting dogpiled and presumably crushed under the weight of loot-frienzied players.
Nobody got to keep it once Blizzard realized their mistake, of course.
There’s a midnight release a short walk from my house, so I’ll probably amble on over and see what is the haps. I’ll bring a camera.
