With awards season thrown into chaos by the WGA strike, the only major show so far has been that of the Screen Actor’s Guild. With the WGA’s approval, the SAG awards raged on, and the winners have now been announced.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood)

This was generally considered to be the strongest male role last year, so it’s no surprise Day-Lewis took the trophy.

Outstanding…Let’s Just Call It “Best Actress”

Julie Christie (Away From Her)

This never garnered a wide release, but apparently enough of the SAG saw it that they thought Christie worth honoring. They have a little more wiggle-room than the Oscars in this way, which are almost forced to be more commercial.

Best Supporting Actor

Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)

There Will be Blood, check. No Country for Old Men, check. The two biggest players have been honored - you can all go back to your lives.

Best Supporting Actress

Ruby Dee (American Gangster)

While this film wasn’t as popular as critics seemed to think it would be, the SAG apparently liked it.

Outstanding Performance by a Cast

Pretty Much Everyone (No Country for Old Men)

Perhaps because it’s hard to pick one strong lead in No Country, the SAG chose to honor it in this way. Fair enough!

They may not count for much, but the SAG awards might be the only glitzy show we have this year. Treasure them - and check out the rest of the winners.
