There May Well Be More Blood–Paul Thomas Anderson Goes Horror?
This next thing I’m about to tell you folks is actually pretty big. Paul Thomas Anderson, the guy who did Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood, amongst a host of others, is actually considering doing a horror movie for his next title.
Mixed Reactions
There have, naturally, been many reactions to this, and some of them are good. The last time a major Oscar winner got involved in horror, some opine, we got The Shining, and that’s nothing to sneeze at. Horror needs credibility, folks—for a long time now it’s been the dumping ground of garbage filmmakers out to make a quick buck and kids in their backyards playing with mommy’s camera. What better place to get credibility than to bring in the Oscar crowd? Might be interesting.
Of course, there are those who say that letting just anybody in here only proves we have no credibility because, of course, we’ll let absolutely anybody in. To that I say simply: guys, horror is a really, really accessible genre. That’s why you see so much of it. Anyone with a couple grand, some volunteers and a camera can run out and make a Friday the 13th knockoff in just a couple weekends. Can it necessarily be bad if we get some good stuff in here? Assuming of course Anderson can pull it off, won’t it be worth it?
Well, regardless of which way he goes—and it’ll be a long while before we even see a film out of this—I’m rather looking forward to his take on things. Maybe we can even get a Boogie Nights-esque horror flick. Boy, that’d really put Killer Condom to shame, wouldn’t it?
All joking aside, however, there’s plenty of Paul Thomas Anderson trivia waiting for you on Kwanzoo.
