T.V. Trivia: “Lost” Hours Returned after WGA Strike

Of all the ways in which the writer’s strike interfered with our important television-watching habits, one of the most egregious, according to Lost fans, was the fact that it cut into Lost. Because of various delays, the previous season ended three episodes short of what it was scheduled.

For the 2009 and 2010 seasons, the producers plan to tack on an extra hour, perhaps in the form of two-hour finales for both. This way, they will fulfill their promised 16-16-16 episode plan for the final three seasons.

Lost fans are both elated and sad, because the end is now in sight for their favorite show. Producers confirmed that there will be no unnatural extensions of the show’s life. The Hollywood Reporter has details.

When it comes time to air the series finale in 2010, Lindelof said he and Cuse plan to “go into hiding for many, many months” at an “undisclosed location.”

“David Chase set a great example when he went off to Paris after ‘The Sopranos’ ending, which is great because all these people are going to be asking, ‘What does it mean? What is it?’ ” he said. “The fact that there’s no one really around to answer that question, it forces people to come up with what they think it means. We can guarantee our show will not end with a cut to black, it will be more clear than that. But whenever anything you love ends … there’s a certain disappointment.”

  1. No unnatural extensions? On a show that not only jumped the shark, but also had the shark team up with polar bears and space aliens in an attempt to force a hostile takeover of the global textile industry, that doesn’t mean much.
