T.V. Trivia: “Scrubs” Moves On
Scrubs, the series enjoyed by many people who “don’t watch medical shows,” was thrown into a minor chaos by the writer’s strike last year. Unwilling to let one of their most popular shows lapse during the strike, ABC Studios brought in writers who were not WGA members to finish one of the scripts. Production was chaotic and disrupted by picketers. The twelfth episode was aired as the season finale, and nobody was sure what would happen to the lost episodes or whether the show would, in fact, end with its seventh season.
While Scrubs was produced by an ABC company, the show was licensed to the network NBC. Confused yet? It gets worse. Since NBC was going to pull the plug on the show, executive producer Bill Lawrence decided to make a deal with ABC - which now not only produces, but will also air the show.
NBC did eventually order and produce the last few episodes of the seventh season, but the May 8th finale served as Scrubs‘ goodbye - not to television, but to NBC.
Production began in April for Scrubs‘ eighth season. Lawrence reported in a video blog that it will hearken back to early seasons in tone, and will also introduce new characters.
