T.V. Trivia: Season Finale of “House” Plays With the Formula
The fourth season of House brought some changes to Fox’s formulaic but beloved medical drama. The diagnostic team that had stuck with House - mostly - through thick and thin all moved on with their careers, leaving the troubled doctor to assemble a new team of Watsons.
While the show certainly needed to be mixed up a bit, many fans did not agree with the changes. Now, perhaps in an attempt to redeem themselves, the writers have put a little extra ingenuity into the finale of the chaotic Season 4.
TV.com writer Kayvan Ghavim has reported back after a screening of the episode’s first part. He writes:
Beginning with House in the midst of a lapdance, “House’s Head” breaks from convention in that we aren’t given a standard case. Rather than beginning with the patient in their normal life and collapsing, this time we have House realizing what happened in the last several hours after a massive bus accident.
Few episodes of the show have opened with House being present, and those that do usually contain the patient as well. This is a new direction for the episode structure - however, other times when they’ve tried messing with the formula, such as Season 2’s “The Mistake,” fell flat. Hopefully, this finale will handle it better.
The season finale, “House’s Head,” airs tonight at 9pm on Fox.
