Twilight Faded
Call it schaudenfreude if you must, folks, but I’m all sorts of tickled that that miserable piece of crap of a vampire film, Twilight, is losing a whole LOT of steam at the box office.
How much is “a whole lot”, you ask?
From its opening weekend last weekend to this weekend, it took in fully sixty-one percent less.
Sixty one percent! Do you understand what that MEANS? Okay, let me lay it out for you–last weekend, nobody saw it once. That means everyone who went saw it for the first time. Oh, sure, maybe some of the people who saw it on Friday came back for another show on Saturday or Sunday, but that amount’s going to be pretty negligable. So from there to there, figuring that weekday traffic in theatres is pretty light, especially on Thanksgiving Day proper which was in the middle of last week, you can figure that only four people saw it this weekend for every TEN who did last weekend, and most of the ones who saw it this weekend were probably the handful of diehards.
Basically, at maximum, only forty percent of the original audience came back for repeat viewings. And the number is almost certainly less than that as some didn’t manage to see it opening weekend. And what it all boils down to is that this movie, genuinely thank God, does NOT HAVE LEGS.
Considering that the producers on Twilight just jacked the returning leads’ salary up a factor of five hundred percent, this news can’t be sitting well. Not at ALL.

Wait a second…the IMDB article says that the movie has made $130 million so far, and considering that the lead roles are two people I had never heard of before, they couldn’t have paid them very much, relative to what most lead roles in box office breakers make anyways.You understand it all a lot better than I do, but $130 million doesn’t sound like too much fail at all. Can’t we torch Robert Pattinson’s trailer at the set of the next one or something? That’d be much more gratifying.
Ah, but you’re preaching to the choir, good sir. At last report–I actually wrote about it here, so if you’ve missed it it’s a good time to go archive digging–the two principals were paid two mil each for their involvement, and that was recently upped to twelve mil per for their involvement in the NEXT one. Remember that they took in like eighty million their first weekend, so losing sixty percent is still like thirty five million last weekend.
