Everyone probably remembers Kate Beckinsale as a Death Dealer in the Underworld series, but may not think too much of her role in Vacancy. Interestingly enough, there will prove to be a second one coming out soon.

If you haven’t seen the first one, which may or may not be a good thing, the plot is simple enough to explain. A bickering, about to divorce couple, has their car break down on the way to some function or another—I think it was a wedding, it’s not really important—and thus they need a room for the night. They’re out in the middle of nowhere, understand, and that means car repair folks are in short supply. They get a room at a cheesy little motel that’s at least laid out like the one from Psycho, and the owner has similar proclivities. Except this time around, the owner’s running a kind of deathmatch / snuff film studio with a coterie of psychopaths, and the couple’s got to last the night and get out alive.

Which sort of paints the folks behind Vacancy 2 into a corner—who’s dumb enough to go to that motel? How are they going to keep this interesting in the least? I don’t know…and sadly, we won’t know for some time. It’s only just hit production charts, so a release date is still a big amorphous cloud.
