Video Game trivia: Just how does Wii Fit stack up?
You can talk all you want about market penetration or installed bases. Everyone knows the real test of video game hardware is how many people are unable to buy it.
Wii Fit sold out its preorders at several retailers earlier this month. But with its release, how does it stack up with other historical console blue balls, such as the Playstation 2 or the Wii itself?
As of tonight, Ebay has many listings, but the prices don’t appear to be especially inflated. At a “Buy It Now” price of $150, Wii Fit is going for a mere 166% markup. For comparison, the $250 Wii console hovered around $500 for a long time.
But for markup, the Wii Fit is more around the $500 PS3, which started strong before its actual release but dropped to the $750 range in short order.
(Can’t find any PS2 data right now. Sorry.)
One of my roommates bought one off of a coworker, so I’ll have the chance to try it fairly soon. It’s a great innovation and all, but I’ll probably stick with my regular analog method of calling children fat.
