Video Games: The current gen is still the last gen.
I mentioned Persona 4 coming out a while ago, but there’s something I overlooked.
It’s a PS2 game.
It’s been around a year and a half since the PS3 was released and two and a half years since the Xbox 360, launching the so-called “next-gen” era, despite the fact that it is now the current gen.
(Wondering if a game is next-gen? Well, if the background looks like it was run through the bleach cycle twice and everything else looks like it was shrink-wrapped in a layer of plastic, it’s next-gen.)
But hey, why not make a top-tier game for the PS2? That console is a monster. If you believe the numbers, it’s got an installed base of 127 million people worldwide.
All the new consoles? Not so much. The Wii is at about 28.46 million and the Xbox 360 at 19.54 million.
And the PS3?
13.84 million. And it has the advantage of not selling abysmally in Japan like the 360.
So, you’re making a game. You want to sell as many of them as possible. Do you make it for the console that has 14 million users, or 127 million users?
