Video games: Things of Note
-Some awful stuff went down yesterday in Akihabara, Tokyo’s electronics nerd mecca. A man decided to run down as many people as he could before getting out and going on a stabbing rampage. Seven died and ten were wounded.
In a bit of black humor, some misinformation leaked out about the killer in the confusion. It was widely reported that a suicidal Tomohiro Kato had posted plans about his rampage on the Internet. The AFP reported that a second posting had been made.
On a different site, an anonymous posting on May 27 was entitled “A disaster in Akihabara” and warned that an incident would take place on June 5.
As Kotaku points out, the “disaster” in question was a reference to the release date of Ninja Gaiden 2, and the post was nothing more than part of a PS3/XBox 360 fanboy argument.
-Kotaku is also reporting that the next World of Warcraft expansion is going to get in on the achievements bandwagon. Honestly, this is just getting out of hand now.
-There’s a video going around of someone having entirely too much fun with the Age of Conan PVP mounted combat. Is there anything that the Benny Hill music can’t make funnier?
