Walk the Hard Line

Few filmmakers would be courageous enough to parody a biopic, but Judd Apatow, drunk on the success of Superbad and Knocked Up, decided to go for it.

Johnny CashThe past few years have been good for musicians’ life stories. Movies like Ray and Walk the Line were quite successful, particularly the latter, a long-awaited biopic of the late great Johnny Cash. Based on Cash’s self-titled autobiography, it chronicled his life from a tragic childhood in rural Arkansas to his famous performance in front of inmates at Folsom Prison.

But is it ripe for parody? The new Sony Entertainment release, Walk Hard, stars John C. Reilly as a Johnny Cash/Jim Morrison/Ray Charles hybrid named Dewey Cox. Get it? Cox? Nearly all of the trailers contain a multitude of “cox” jokes, and early reviews state that the movie suffers from the same sophomoric humor. But with Jack Black and Paul Rudd as two of the Beatles and The Office’s Jenna Fischer as Dewey’s love interest, how far wrong can it go? Watch this trailer and decide for yourself:
