We Wish You a Kwanzoo Christmas: Television, Pt. 2
Christmas is coming! In honor of this increasingly materialistic yet heart-warming holiday, I’d like to share some of my favorite Christmas entertainment with all of you. Hopefully, it will help bring you into the warm embrace of The Christmas Spirit.
Every T.V. show worth its salt has at least one Christmas episode. T.V. fans should hurry up and get festive with some of these, my favorite T.V. Christmas episodes - and if you don’t like this list, then make your
own. There’s plenty of shows to go around.
The Sopranos
For a show that’s all about families - genetically related and otherwise - The Sopranos was a bit light on the Christmas cheer. However, the appropriately titled “…To Save Us All from Satan’s Power” in the third season introduces us to the Sopranos family Christmas. Tony celebrates by savagely beating a Russian mobster who hurt his sister, savagely beating his daughter’s boyfriend, and continuing to be haunted by his deceased rat friend Pussy.
In the sixth season episode “Kaisha,” mob politics take precedence over holiday festivities. What a surprise. However, we still get a nice shot of the family gathered around the tree - plus A.J.’s new girlfriend, Blanca, whom he met on his construction job. And though Carmela still worries about the mysterious disappearance of her friend Adriana and Adriana’s mother’s self-destructive reactions, eventually she turns her attention back to her spec house - much to Tony’s relief. Merry Christmas, everybody!
Family Guy
Once again, a show about a family doesn’t pay a ton of homage to the ultimate family holiday - but in “A Very Special Family Guy Freakin’ Christmas” in the show’s third season, everyone’s favorite (flesh-colored) cartoon family gave us important lessons about the meaning of Christmas. Despite the rest of the family’s bumbling mistakes and ungratefulness, Lois managed to be the family’s anchor and keep her sanity to make sure Christmas turned out perfect. But after the house is mostly destroyed in a turkey-related fire, a lack of paper towels becomes the straw that breaks the camel’s back, and Lois snaps. The family learns that they must all pull their weight in the Christmas preparations.
Stay tuned for even more T.V. Christmas fun. YAAAAY!
