When I Googled Bob Saget, It Said “Why?”

I was born in 1987, so I have many fond memories of watching America’s Funniest Home Videos with your host, Bob Saget! At the time, I thought he was basically the God of comedy. It helped that my parents didn’t let me watch much T.V. Oddly, they didn’t consider any of the groin injury humor on the show to be objectionable. And there was always groin injury humor. Every other video, and the audience always laughed.

In case you’re wondering why I introduced him as the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos instead of Full House’s Danny, well, I wasn’t allowed to watch Full House. I guess because of the whole “single parent” issue, which is okay for a Disney movie, but just too controversial and confusing for a kid watching a sitcom.

Well, anyway, Bob Saget is a part of my childhood. All other children of the ’80s can probably say the same thing. And now, he can really wear a feather in his cap - because Comedy Central just roasted him.

This might not sound like the best thing in the world, but bear in mind that a Comedy Central roast means you’ve arrived. You might suck, but at least people know who you are and why you suck.

Here’s Comedy Central’s preview of the roast, which gives you a pretty good idea of what went on. (Adult language is bleeped, but the subject matter is still pretty raw. Viewer discretion advised.)

The most quoted joke of the night was Gilbert Gottfried’s timely internet reference: “When I googled Bob Saget, it said, ‘why?’”

How adorable. I’ve always found these roasts to be an awkward thing, forcing someone who already takes a huge amount of criticism in their job to sit and laugh at their friends and colleagues telling them how worthless they are. They’re always such good sports, I feel like I’m obligated to be offended on their behalf.

But seriously, Bob Saget totally deserved it.
