Wii lightsabers, maybe? Finally?
When the Wii was first unveiled, every red-blooded boy immediately thought the same thing: STAR WARS GAME. You move the controller in your hand and the lightsaber moves on the screen. This is the thing the console was born to do, except it can’t actually do it.
As anyone who has tried some of the non-Wii Sports games knows, the Wiimote’s motion sensing can be awfully dodgy at times, not coming anywhere close to 1-to-1 movement. (Give the MonkeyBall frisbee minigame a try sometime for an exercise in frustration.) But now that Nintendo is introducing an add-on that supposedly improves the motion sensing, a third party company has put out a rather tantalizing video.
At about 1:50, you’ll see a very familiar green sword being bandied about. Hell, even the balls he’s smacking around look like the little training widget that was zapping Luke while he was blindfolded.
LucasArts would be crazy if they didn’t have a team of people already working on the same thing. It’s darn nice to see that this sort of thing at least looks possible. Games, however, take a long time to make, so we still probably won’t be seeing the Jedi Knight game we’ve always wanted anytime soon.
