The Venture Brothers is a fantastic show on Cartoon Network's much-maligned Adult Swim block. Based loosely on shows like Jonny Quest, it's about Dr. Rusty Venture, an aging, embittered superscientist who was formerly a boy adventurer like Quest. He has two sons, Hank and Dean, who seem to have been dragged whole and breathing out of 1955 and also a musclebound occasional psychopath of a bodyguard named Brock Samson, a marginally disgraced OSI agent attached to Operation Rusty's Blanket. He finds himself menaced by his arch-nemesis, The Monarch, who has themed himself around a butterfly and flies around in an enormous antigravity-capable cocoon. There are several other characters, from Rusty's vastly more successful brother Jonas Jr. whom Rusty partially absorbed in the womb, to a legion of other equally colorful supervillains to the actually fairly inept and obsessive Monarch.
One of the show's central themes according to its creator is failure. So you can understand where they'll be going with this fruit salad of characters.
Seasons one and two are available on DVD, and season three likely will be soon but for now is being rebroadcast semiregularly in the Adult Swim block.
